Exhibition text:
In my master project I have placed my magnifying glass on the microcosmos of the ocean. Algae and cyanobacteria are used as metaphors of how microprocesses can influence vast cycles, but also directly as material for ink and aesthetic inspiration for my drawings. I recycle my own material in collages. Like a mother cell duplicating, new forms are being shaped out of my archive of drawings, prints and found material. The forms are speculative, but you will find traces of cells, cysts, roots, algae, corals and seaweed. I draw with the wonder of what creatures exist under the abyssal sone, and what morphological organisms may exist in a far future after oil spills and deep-sea mining. More than eighty percent of the ocean remains unmapped, the moon and Mars has been studied more closely than the ocean floor. I have tried to catch the abyssal ghosts in my series of oceanic trenches of paper and isomalt. The drawings’ temporal protective membrane will slowly get foggy and the drawings of spirulina and graphite fade, leaving traces of an artistic ecosystem.
